OK Guys, I could not help dedicating an entire thread to the latest "EgoMayniacal" atrocity! So I guess that Brian May is too important to appear along with people like Elton John at the Princess Diana tribute concert. What in the world makes him think that he is so important? Let me give you an example here to illustrate what I am talking about: a link to the link webpage. Let me remind you that the search engine here has 25,000 people listed in it (Freddie being there, of course). Do you see Brian May listed there? No! And why not? Because he is simply not that famous in the first place! He should be honored that someone like Joss Stone would want him around. Let's face it, he is basically a third-tier celebrity who should be honored at the opportunity to make an appearance here. So what makes him think that he is so great as to fail Joss Stone (who IS listed in link and who IS quite famous)? My theory: He is jealous that Princess Diana apparently was a “ massive Freddie Mercury Fan.” We all know about how poorly he handles this sort of thing. By the way, did you pick up on the apparent reason: He is frantically trying to "finish a Ph.D." that he started 30 years ago. Did I hear that right? Guys, as a Ph.D. candidate myself (chemistry), this make no sense at all. What a joke! Even if he were to get a Ph.D. at some point, what in the world is the hurry? I can assure you that he is WAY too old to ever be considered for any kind of academic position (such as an Assistant Professor position). I can also assure you that if Brian May does in fact receive a Ph.D., it will be a consolation prize handed out by the school in hopes that he will donate money, rather than something that has to do with any “contributions” made to science. It is utterly sleazy to me, a hard-working young scientist, to see this kind of thing. |

Stage fright? Too emotional of a setting? Or....maybe he had set aside that time from world travels to meet a deadline? jayzus, he gave enough notice. It's not like he pulled an Axl and failed to show up or cancelled the hour of the performance. The man has a life, ya know. Roger and John are still available..... |

Brian May is NOT listed on link On the other hand, 25,000 other people are. He is also not listed in any of the major almanacs or biographical dictionaries. Most of these listings are also made up of living people, by the way. Guess what, Brian May? why the hell are you being mean about dear Bri?? sheesh - I may not be a big Bri fan or anything, but give the guy a break - you wouldn't to do EVERY bloody concert (Actually I doubt you'd even be ABLE to do a fucking concert) and so what if She was a Fred fan? It doesn't even fucking matter, and why the fuck did I read this shit anyways?? my birthday night is ruined because I'm now in the mood to hate you - good job on starting a nice enemy! and while I'm swearing,Repeating myself, probably not making any fucking sense and most likely making an arse of myself (Which I do anyways so I don't see why I'm bringing it to anyone's immediate attention) - you really need to get over every bloody thing, so what if he's not on some stupid website, and so what if he doesn't want to do that fucking concert?? I mean at least he's not wasting all his time on this website (I can because I'm not allowed to have a life for another three days) and with that I kick sand and dirt in your face, fart and sneeze in your general direction and spit at your feet - Have a nice day. |
YourValentine 30.06.2007 06:19 |
If Princes William and Harry had wanted Brian to appear on the concert they could have invited him. Brian posted a message on his soap box explaining the situation. He is not a session musician you can hire per hour. If you want him to play his own work you have to accept his wishes. I do not see that Brian has been arrogant or unhelpful. It's just a tabloid making a story out of this. |

Or if he does not want to appear at some celebrideeeeeeeee bash to honour a woman who did sod all with her pampered life except moan about how tough it was being rich, famous and a member of the monarchy? And please don't say it's for charity cos he has given thousands of hours of his time previously to help needy causes. Brian stated that he did not have time to prepare properly for the concert but that he & Joss Stone will work together in the near future. Good luck to him if he wants to continue with his personal interests in astronomy or anything else for that matter. |

And even though he´s not listed on that site (whathever that is!) every musician from all genres would love to work with him. This is success!! Important or not, what do you care about his live? Just because there´s going to be a concert doesn´t mean he has to play there. He´s probably fed up with charity concerts that in the end only promotes the artists who play there. He is the Queen+Paul Rodgers guitarrist right now, so i think it would be more polite to ask Queen to do a set of their own instead of hiring Joss Stone to sing other artists songs when she has great songs of her own and then ask Brian to join in and do a version that he didn´t choose to play in the first place. This means that he´s not a sell out! But we´ll hear the version very soon. What do you think about this? Shurelly this shows respect for Brian don´t you think? And i´m not going to comment your words on his Phd thing. It was disrespectfull to say the least. He´s working with very important people right now on that field, and his friends have stated over the years that he´s above average when it comes to intelligence. And if they compare him with some Queenzoners then i think he´s up a few levels! Take care |

As we age, and you will experience this one day, we begin to sense our mortality and feel pressure to complete the things in our life that are important to us. As friends and family pass away around us, we begin to ask " when me?" I doubt Brian intends to pursue a career in astronomy, but getting his PHD is important to him. And after a lifetime of doing the celebrity thing, perhaps it's just not that important to him. As far as the "consolation prize", you don't know that. You need to not be so judgmental. Perhaps you chose chemistry because it does not require you to understand humanity. Let the man do his thing, you do your thing and be happy. And good luck with your studies, I knoe how long and hard it can be. My distractions were women, booze and pot. I don't know what yours are. Brian seems to have a lot going on. It's hard for us all. |

So I guess that Brian May is too important to appear along with people like Elton John at the Princess Diana tribute concert. What in the world makes him think that he is so important?Well, not that I think he's (too) self absorbed, but he is a guitar virtuoso, successful musician and a very smart man. Let's face it, he is basically a third-tier celebrity who should be honored at the opportunity to make an appearance here.Though Paris Hilton is featured many times in Biography.com though she is not a guitar virtuoso, successful anything (not counting heiress), and she probably doesn't know how to spell virtuoso or guitar for that matter. So what makes him think that he is so great as to fail Joss Stone (who IS listed in link and who IS quite famous)? My theory: He is jealous that Princess Diana apparently was a “ massive Freddie Mercury Fan.” We all know about how poorly he handles this sort of thing.Oh wow, he isn't going because he's pouting that his best friend was slightly more successful than him. It'd be easier to believe that Brian actually transplanted his hair from a poodle. By the way, did you pick up on the apparent reason: He is frantically trying to "finish a Ph.D." that he started 30 years ago. Did I hear that right? It is utterly sleazy to me, a hard-working young scientist, to see this kind of thing. So what, it's something he's wanted to finish for a long time. If he's dedicated, even overly dedicated, then what's the trouble in that? At least he isn't sitting at home stagnating. And why would he want to be considered for an academic position? He's already very successful in another high paying job, and although it would be an honor to be considered for such a position he has other commitments. No need to read through my rant, just look at the other posts. It's obvious that you're at least 90% wrong. I'd rather see you being the "hard-working young scientist" you are, then infecting the board with your pseudo-intelligent rant on Brian's decision to pass up his concert appearance which he didn't really confirm in the first place. |

Ok, let's make a list: Robbie Williams Justin Timberlake Paris Hilton Kevin Federline George Clooney Leonardo DiCaprio Lindsay Lohan Britney Spears Bono (I still like his music though) Jessica Alba Eddie Murphy What do all these people have in common? They are just a teensy tiny list of people who have bigger egos than Brian May. He's not only a musician but a scientist. Find a ladder and get over it. [EDIT] - Read his effing soapbox, will ya! It explains why he isn't going to perform with Joss Stone, AND when he talks about his thesis he says it will "probably sell about 5 copies". Is that the mark of a man with a big ego? I don't think so. |

It has nothing to do with the "Queen-and-Freddie-are-the-best-ever-and-no-one-can-do-better-or-the-same" thing, but I didn't like Joss Stone's Under Pressure. Elizabeth Knightson wrote: Don't know if people are gonna jump at my throat for sayin' this. (...)I didn't like Joss Stone's Under Pressure.Agree on that - the song sounded rather weak and confused as a whole, unsure about what it should really be and where it should really stand, so to speak. From her plaintive singing, she probably meant to turn it into an outburst of utter despair and a cry for help, which it was in places, but the brass section and that powerful guitar solo sounded more like heroic rebellion. However, IMHO *her kind of* despair doesn't agree much with that bass line at the front, and the song crumbles if you remove that bass line or hide it too far back in the background. Pity, it was a nice try. I hear there's an album version and it is much better, but I never listened to that. |

ok, he didn't play at a concert...why have you jumped at his throat? His reasons were pretty clear, he couldn't get his head around the arrangement they'd done of the song at this short notice and didn't want to embarrass himself and Joss. Plus he wants to concentrate on his PhD. And why shouldn't he? Why can't anyone get a PhD if they want to and work hard enough? |

And if she's on this Bio site, well the sites fucked for putting some on there who’s life experience is decimal. She what age? How young is she and she's on this Bio site, already it tells me its subjective, who gives a dam if Brian’s on there or not,, she's just part of today’s "got the looks, got it all" phase the media and rich teeny boppers love. |

Hmmmm... Number of Kurds gassed by Brian May : 0 Number of buildings destroyed by planes flown by Brian May : 0 Episodes of Grey's Anatomy funded by Brian May : 0 --- Somehow... I really don't see how the word "Atrocity" is applicable to one old rockers online-diary. Fuck you, man.... seriously, for starting this thread - I hope you get Bruce Springsteen stuck on your radio or something. |

The Princess Diana Tribute show is bullshit anyways. Good on Brian for not taking part. |
