Fellow Queenzoners, My collection of Queen consists of all the albums and Freddie Mercury's Mr. Bad Guy and Barcelona. Now I am ready to start my next project; the collection of Brian May and Roger Taylor's solo work. My question for you is this: Do you have any suggestions or helpful tips on which of their albums are the best? I'll admit my knowledge upon the matter is limited and this is why I shall resort to this forum. Your help would be much appreciated and I'll trust that you all know what you're talking about. Thanks in advance, my friends. Ramirez |

I don't really care for any of their solo stuff, although I do own most of Brian's, Roger's & Freddie's CD's. For the most part Freddie's stuff is too disco and light-weight pop crap. Roger has some good moments on his solo CD's, but "The Cross" stuff I find boring. Brian stuff is more in line on what one would expect from him. Straight forward rock n' roll except most of it feels like it's missing something. I prefer his CD's overall. If you like I would gladly burn you copies of everything I have by Roger & Brian. Send them to you via USA Mail. Free of charge, nothing in return |

Funny you should ask. I brought STRANGE FRONTIER to work today just to put in the rotation. When it came to, I made it to the Dylan tune and I just had to switch it off. Man, it's awful. |

Anyone who hates Bob Dylan should listen to RT's version. You'll love Bob Dylan when you hear the original. |

Man, it's awful.I'm mostly inclined to agree. I do like the first three trcks quite a bit though. The springsteen cover is okay. The Dylan cover is dated in the extreme. The rest of the album (which was side 2 on the original LP) is pretty close to awful. Fun in Space is pretty great from start to finish though. |
Shane Jazz 27.06.2007 21:47 |
Fun in Space still sounds fresh and rocking today, whereas to me at least, Strange Frontier seems dated. Man on Fire and the title track are first rate songs, however. Happiness and Electric Fire are good, solid albums. |

Beautiful tracks (moving songs) on Happiness Fun in space is quite good Can't listen enough to Back to the light and Another world (Brian's solo works) |

Micrówave wrote: I made it to the Dylan tune and I just had to switch it off. Man, it's awful.... funny how to me it's one of the best tracks on the album - also way better than the original ... Anyway: from Roger, I'd recommend Happiness first (very good listening, "Old Friends" probably his best song ever), then Electric Fire (better songwriting but less "comfortable"); from Brian, I'd recommend BTTL then AW: the difference is amazing, you can't fully appreciate the latter if you don't listen to the former carefully. |
