I was thumbing through link and looking at the two known setlists noted (10/03/72 London and 20/12/72 London). Now, here's what I'm thinking about...
Brian's solo existed in an early form in Smile's Blag, then later appeared in 1973 in the BBC versions of "Son And Daughter", as well as on the Sheetkeeckers bootleg (the vinyl of which I own) in the same song.
The two setlists have "Son And Daughter" as either the first or second song. It's seems unlikely to me that Brian would wipe out the solo that early in a gig. Now, I'm basing that on the fact that it tended to be in the middle by late-seventies. I could be wrong.
Where do you suppose the solo would have lived during those concerts; in which song?

Brian's solo was indeed in "Son and Daughter" but i dont ever remember them playing that song as the second song in a gig.

Actually, it was much less. Brian was once quoted in '82 saying the solo was about 30 seconds in the early days (and listening to the recordings definitely confirms this), and he also said he first did the solo on the first tour with Mott The Hoople which, if his memory sarved him correctly, means he didn't play it at the Marquee 72 gig or any of those earlier gigs. But he played it at the Golders Green gig which was before the tour, so who knows how many other 73 gigs he played it at, or if it went back to '72.
In other words, without a recording, we simply don't know.
