Detroit is just too far away. |
ElleInnuendo 03.07.2007 16:41 |
I hear ya, Pieter, it's a 4+ hour flight for me. These things are so much fun though! :) |
QueenTaylor 07.07.2007 17:52 |
Ok-now is the covention taking place at the hotel? |
ElleInnuendo 10.07.2007 15:33 |
Hi, The convention is taking place at the hotel in Detroit (well, Farmington Hills), yes. The optional WWRY Toronto trip is just one night, then it moves to the main event in Michigan. As in the past with Breakthru, usually a ballroom and a couple meeting rooms are utilized for activities and live bands. The best part is often the room parties! :D |
QueenTaylor 10.07.2007 15:49 |
Ok thanks!! I'd love to go, but I don't think it's going to happen :( |
ElleInnuendo 12.07.2007 15:11 |
I believe Breakthru will be back next year, too, so maybe start saving for that one! :) |
QueenTaylor 12.07.2007 21:31 |
^yeah :) I'd like to go to one of them-I'm in Connecticut, US so it's a little ways to go, but I wish they'd have one even closer like New York or something or Pennsylvania |
ElleInnuendo 15.07.2007 14:13 |
Most US conventions like Breakthru and this one are held in central locations so people from both coasts can go without having to cross the entire country. Breakthru was in Cleveland OH last year, not sure about next year! |
gem27 15.07.2007 14:43 |
I'm from the UK and I went to Cleveland last year to the Breakthru convention. I went with a girl I had only chatted to online in fact we met on the Queenzone chatroom. Anyway it was my first convention and I had the time of my life. It was so great. |
ElleInnuendo 16.07.2007 14:07 |
HI Gem, I was there too, I wonder if we met? There were only a few folks from the UK-- Sarah and Terry off the top of my head. It was a blast! Are you coming to this convention? |
QueenTaylor 16.07.2007 18:47 |
hmmm yeah I know what you mean, but I wish we had a whole fan club in the US, I'm part of the Official International Fan Club, but It would be cool if the US had something itself. |
ElleInnuendo 16.07.2007 18:57 |
That's a good point, Roger's Queen... Didn't there used to be one in the US though? Royal Vision? Or was that just a convention? |
QueenTaylor 16.07.2007 19:02 |
yeah.I don't think so...that was a covention I believe. but it would be nice to have our own fan club to visit :) |
ElleInnuendo 16.07.2007 20:12 |
It would be nice to have one to visit in the UK too :( Every time I went there I said I'd visit, and never did and then it closed down the office when I went in March for the UK convention. :( Grrr. |
QueenTaylor 16.07.2007 20:14 |
yeah I know-now I can't even visit that one soo now...I'll never have one to visit lol. I was so upset when I heard about it closing! |

Hi Elle I don't know, we might have met. I was wearing the white Freddie flash t shirt. I have blonde hair. I can't come to this one sorry. I am flying in to New York on the 4th of August but my girlfriend wants me to go to her family reunion to meet her family members I haven't seen before so I can't. I hope to go again next year though :-) |
ElleInnuendo 17.07.2007 10:14 |
link Gem- If you look on the pix page you'll see some where I'm in it, as one of the "Sweet Ladies" (in black). I'm sure I would have noticed someone besides Jacky with an English accent at that! :D Sorry if I missed ya! Do you go to the UK conventions? I went to the last one and it was SO GREAT! |
gem27 17.07.2007 11:18 |
Oh yeah I see you. Damn I'm not on any pic. There was one of the back of me on some website of that convention back last year. I was in the room watching the video of The Bohemian Rhapsody story and someone took a pic of my back! I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in that afternoon, it was pretty good. Yeah I met Jackie there she seemed impressed I had came all that far to attend. No it was my first convention anywhere. I've never been to any UK ones. Where was the UK one held you went to? |
ElleInnuendo 17.07.2007 13:28 |
Gem, The UK one was this past March in Somerset- Weston Super Mare to be precise. At a Pontins. It was... interesting budget accomodations.... BUT the party was fantastic!! Spike Edney and Jamie Moses played with a couple others as the World Famous Red Sox, the tribute bands Queen for a Day and Rhapsody rocked, and we all partied and danced for 3 days straight... HEAVEN! The next one is rumored to be in the same place in the last week of March 08. |

<font color=0>Metal Maiden<h6>Oh Yeah... wrote: I like in New York. Bleh. Nothing Queenlike goes on there.. Not true, Almost Queen plays in NJ and NY sometimes, they're amazing tribute band. Now the truth is nothing Queenlike ever happens on the WEST COAST, where I'm from, except for the Q+PR shows when they were here in 06. |
gem27 17.07.2007 14:16 |
Elle - I have been to Weston Super Mare I live around an hours drive from there. It's a nice place by the sea. I remember the conventions in the mid 1990s were held in North Wales and I thought of going but I never did. So while you were here did you visit Freddie's house in London? (Freddie's old house I mean) I think there are many Queen fans in the UK but my god the US Queen fans I found to be more scary fans than here. Like i saw groups of them who had been to see Queen+Paul Rodgers all close to tears just remembering it. I don't think here people would get like that so bad. |

I think it's partly because we're soooooo Queen starved, since they hadn't toured since 1982 or so. So we have alot of time to make up for! :D I count myself among the crazy ones, I saw Q+PR 5 times on tour, the first 2 shows in 2005 and 3 in 2006, I flew about a total of 5000 miles for it and snuck into after parties, into the front row, everything for my boys! :) Also, at least for ME, I feel totally isolated as a Queen fan waaaaay out here in California, so when I get to see Q+PR or hang out with other Queen people, it's a special experience. One I never thought I would ever have! I've been to Garden Lodge half a dozen times. I stay at a hotel on Cromwell Rd (near the Gloucester Rd tube stop) just to be in walking distance of Freddie's. :) I've left roses and notes and just sat there listening to my ipod and remembering him... The UK conventions were in Southport for many years and then Prestatyn, Wales, and now Weston Super Mare. It was SOOOO cold there! And the cab ride from the train station was disturbingly long, I wondered where they were taking us! :) It was the best 3 days of my life I think, though. I had sooo much fun! |

I'm hoping to marry a Queen fan. She lives in America and felt the same as you guys, very Queen starved. She had never been to the UK before when I flew here over here last September and I took her to Garden Lodge and proposed and she did say yes :D |

I too married a Queen fan that I met right here on QZ. It'll be 4 years this November 23, and we have a little boy now as well. I have since changed my screen name and rarely post or even check QZ anymore, but I can't resist popping in to check the site from time to time. |

if there's a special song you'd like played for a special person in Detroit this year, send me an email. Queen-fan spouses are the best, I'd have to agree!!! |
