Bit of a severe title, but you'll hopefully get why cause I'm a teensy bit annoyed.
9 years ago, or so, with my limited music skills at the time, I transcribed the Larry Lurex track, "Goin' Back" for this site - link
Gladly, it still exists and you can see my bad ear at the time! lol I always meant to insert the bits I'd missed out. Woops!
But what's not funny is finding the same transcription on other sites, stripped of my info. No mention of it having been me who transcribed it. Even worse, on link the same transcription is again stripped of my info and now credited to someone called Erik S. link
Sure, maybe someone else did transcribe it exactly the same as me. But something tells me it's been copied. Just the layout of it makes me think that.
It is a rubbish transcription, mind. I throw my hands up on that one! But this got me thinking about the internet as a crap source for the truth, sometimes. And really, about any information you may have on the internet will eventually be taken and wiped out. Your stamp on something, deleted and removed from existence.
It's just a sad day in my 12 or so years on the internet to see this. Heck, even the stupid soundsets I made for that Worms game are still available AND credited to me!! LMAO
But damn the person in the tab/chords community for taking what I did one night at home as a young guy and screwing me over. And for what? A mention on a site? Sometimes, it really makes me wonder...
Adam.
Despite the hard work and effort you may put into a tablature transcription, you cannot actually claim property rights over it. I believe it belongs to the owner of the song, which is why the MPA is shutting down several US-based tablature websites.
And seeing how all you did is provide chords, without any sort of arrangement in your transcript (though that is still quite a feat), you can not even realistically make the assumption that someone else couldn't have come up with the same thing.

As I said, I certainly can't say someone hasn't also transcribed it. But...exactly like how I did it? Mistakes and all? What are the chances that someone came up with the same as what I had? And I say that because there are wrong chords and bass notes missing, etc. That's quite a coincidence when you think of it.

It's the point that counts. Not ownership, but about something being taken. Oh and...DAMN the MPA! :)

Fair point. I didn't check the thing for errors. If it's a carbon-copy of a faulty transcript, then yes, it's probably stolen. Maybe you could e-mail the webmaster, point out that they stole it from you, AND that it's incorrect, give 'em the RIGHT one and receive due credit.
Hey, Adam, I know this is a bit off topic, but I heard one of your Queen covers, and just wanted to let you know that I think it's brilliant.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks TQ. I've definitely thought I should resubmit a corrected version. Maybe I should tell the webmaster about the transcription. All in good time.
Hey A/c deleted! Thankyou very much. If it's A Winter's Tale, that was 6 years ago! Holy moly, how time flies. Well, look out for DSMN and IWBTLY in the coming weeks. DSMN just needs a new vocal and some guitar bits to complete, now. I shall return!
Adam.
Hey folks.
Update! I contacted the site and if you check the page for Going Back - link
You'll see it's now credited to me. I found another very strange coincidence that mirrored my trans. In my trans you can see the line, "Now there's more to do than watch my sailboat glide". And in the middle of mine, it was a capital T on the word, 'than'. This was also the same on the version sitting on Queensongs site! Quite a coincidence!
Anyway, thanks to all that helped me think more on this subject. That's one to the little guy and nil to the plagiarists.
Anyway, I'm now working on a corrected version that will appear on the site, as well. In fact, I seem to be able to sing it, whereas in the past I couldn't cause it was too high for me. Soooo, I might also accompany the new trans with a cover version. We'll see...
Thanks,
Adam.
