The biggest Queen fake ever - beware!
One of the worst cases of forgery in the Queen world is a fake Copenhagen 1978 setlist, advertised as handwritten by Freddie. Just like many other fakes it bears the worthless COA of Jacky Smith (the chairman of the fan club). For starters, it's not Freddie's handwriting at all! The forger managed to get quite close to Freddie's style but basically all the individual letters are terribly wrong. Secondly, Freddie did NOT write setlists after ~1975 at all. He had better things to do! Peter Hince wrote the setlist, photocopied it at the reception desk of the hotel they were staying in and then handed it out to the band and crew members.
This fake Copenhagen setlist was recently in a GottaHaveRockAndRoll auction. As far as I know several top collectors have warned them not to advertise fake items in their auction (the same counts for the allegedly stage worn T-shirts - which have never been stage worn) but they have decided to risk it and keep the auction online anyway. Thank god nobody has bought it. Guys, trust only the top auction sites (Juliens, Omega, RRAuction etc.), those really do care about the provenance, they know about the history of fan club fakes etc. Do not pay thousands of pounds for items unless the provenance is bulletproof!
P.S.: the same forger has written the Princes Of The Universe lyrics. Identical handwriting style. Easy to recognize because we know what the genuine POTU lyrics look like!
On this day [October 13]
WANTED!
Here is a list of concert programs that I need for my collection together with the price I'm willing to pay. There are a couple more that aren't listed here because I don't have any scan (Wintershall 2011). Please get in touch if you are willing to sell (or donate :-)) some of these items to me. Thank you!
