I was ten years old. I'd been invited to my cousin's birthday party at The Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea. I hated kids parties so when we arrived I immediately disappeared through the first door I saw. It lead into a very small room about 12 metres by 6 metres. On a small stage about a foot high was Freddie Mercury and Queen rehearsing for the Mott concert. No one else was in the room. Freddie was wearing a white cape type top, black stovepipe pants like leggings and black leather boots. Shoulder length hair. I was mesmerised by his voice and his appearance. I thought he looked beautiful. A private audience I'll never forget. A snapshot in my life. Just thought I'd share that with you.
