Fan stories
Written by Joe Dennis
I went to the Cincinnati concert with my brother. Great concert, and I can verify that there was no opening band. I was a big fan back in the day, especially through the early 80s. I loved their first several albums, especially their more guitar-based songs.
As the 40th anniversary of the Who tragedy at that same venue has just passed, I can say it was no surprise, after attending the Queen show, a little over a year before. There weren't as many people outside, and they didn't open the doors while a soundcheck was going on, like the Who event. But, when the few doors started opening, there was a surge from the back, and it was all you could do to stay upright. We drifted well off to one side from where we originated, as we moved forward. It was a little unnerving, we'd been to several shows before, but none had that crowd movement outside.
Queen did a great show, though, I believe it was a sell-out, or very near to one.
