Terry Huckstep wrote: I can confirm a concert did take place at Sun City on October 10th as I was there. It is an easily memorable day in South Africa as it is Kruger day. We read of the concert cancellations due to Freddie's voice and were disappointed that we would not see the band as we were taking two Afrikaans teenagers from Kroonstad who had never been outside their town. The news came through that the 10th was on so we set off to drive the then 5 hours to get there. It was a fantastic concert and we arrived back in Kroonstad around 4 am.
Freddie's voice problems may have something to do with the altitude. Where I lived and Sun City were on what is called the Highveld. The area sits some 6000 feet above sea level. Now this altitude apparently affects the voice which is where Freddie had a problem. I remember the press saying concerts would be cancelled and then the announcement that the the 10th would go ahead. I think it was to see if his voice was acclimatising and then another rest as ordered by the doctors.
