I read that... Lester_Burnham is busy writing a book about Queen in general I think.. but it will contain a lot of accurate information about concerts, setlist etc. Someone added that it was about their work in the studio. IS THAT RIGHT? This is interesting. Someone who is actually getting off their bum and doing something constructive. Lester, are you proposing to talk with those who worked with Queen in the studio, for new insights, or are you planning only to use the data already 'out there' which we've already read? That is not a dig. I'm intrigued. a TOTALLY NEW book with NEW info and NEW quotes or interviews, about Queen in the studio, would be most welcome. It's never been done before. Many have spoken about it, but no-one has actually done it! You are planning to speak with.. Louis Austin, John Anthony, Robin Cable, Roy Baker, Mack, David Richards, Justin Shirley-Smith, Croydon, John Etchells, Geoff Workman, Gary Lyons, Jeff Griffin, Bob Harris, Bernie Griffin (if they're all still around), yes??? You'd need to tie up with at least some of these people for a treu QUEEN IN THE STUDIO record. Whereas a compilation of the the facts already out there in myriad books and magazines and videos and documentaries, just re-formatted again, would be rather less informative and appealing and almost certainly will offer nothing we don't already know. Queen in the studio would be a GREAT book indeed, but it has to include new info not published before - of which there is MUCH. Otherwise it isn't worth doing. Surely? More info please. Have you made an approach to QPL to see if you might be granted access to anything new? I'm wondering how serious you are about this Lester and how deep you are prepared to dig in order to proffer something REALLY fascinating. It 'sounds' like a good idea, but how much are you prepered to put into it? This is ambitious. It's the only such venture I have ever seen undertaken on QZ. Good luck to you if you are serious. GB |

It 'sounds' like you are not going to like it! In the sence that I predict that you already know all the info that is in it. But ask Lester about it, because reading your post I think you are not exactly knowing what the precise subject is to be. (If you use the 'search' button, btw, you might find a pretty extensive topic in here about the book!) Oh, by the way; I don't wanna be Lesters spokesman or something, but when he contacted a certain source inside the band about this and asked him if it was possible to only use a couple of quotes from his website, Lester got a polite 'fuck off'... Not very motivating... Do you ever encounter polite 'fuck offs' from insiders too while doing research? (Serious question btw!) |
Jjeroen 17.07.2006 08:17 |
If you search for 'username' then the search button is fine. Looking up Lester's posts by his screenname, should be sufficiant enough in this case, he has not been posting a lot lately. |

Lester, hon, you should definitely, at the very least, talk to Greg and see if he can aid you with contacts, info he has, etc. I know the people at Queen Productions aren't supid, contrary to popular opinion, so they have to see that this book could potentially be a perfect companion to the box set. At the same time, obviously, it's up to you to decide if you want to get them involved for personal or financial reasons on your part. Rodney King may have become something as a punchline but his words holds a lot of truth when you think about it, "can't we all get along". Let's think about that for a second. Why are we here? Because we love Queen. From people like me to people with vast collections and inside knowledge like John Stuart, Greg Brookes, Youngstratman and Lester. At the core we're all here because of an appreciation of the music. I think everyone wants a project like this to be as accurate as possible because of how much we admire what the band accomplished and to share it with other like minded fans and to open a door for casual fans to go through. Everyone may need to put egos aside and do what's best for that period of Queen... I just thought about what I wrote and it sounds like a bunch of sugary bullshit lol but really it was heartfelt when I wrote it. |

But I've never seen anyone bang his head so creatively on a keyboard like Mr. Brooks. I think he has us both beat. No look, I'm being facetious again I'm sorry. Do the words 'to each their own' carry any meaning for you Mr. Brooks? 'Live and let live'? What about this old Tennessee saying : 'These-people-bought-numerous-copies-of-my-book-and-continue-to-buy-Queen-products-so-maybe-I-could-be-less-abrasive-with-them'? You keep *asking* us to prove ourselves worthy of talking about "Queen" as though you have to be an Archivist to *LIKE A BAND* (I know, crazy isn't it). How's about *you* prove some things, eh? First of all, your humanity. You're acting like an alien, really - absolutely no concept of normal human communication. Crying out 'BARBARIANS!' when someone swears, yet throwing around some truly contemptible words yourself! Second, your fitness to do your job. This is obviously something your profession might not allow you to do (for reasons of secrecy), so instead, be quiet. Third... can't you lighten up? You must be one of the most anal people I've met on here. Were you, by any chance, toilet trained at gunpoint? |
john bodega 17.07.2006 13:50 |
"First impressions and all that." You may think us snovelling peasants, but I will say with 100% honesty to you, here and now Mr. Brooks... first impressions are bumpkis! I would certainly change my opinion of you if you'd be a little more cheerful. You rag on and on about how hard your job is and how people have no right to criticise you. I feel for you. Really. But in real life (something I dare say you know more about than I do?) we *cannot* expect to live in a bubble free from criticism. Our actions will be called into question; the best we can do is do things that we think are right, and if someone points out that we fucked up, we do our best to fix it. Do you disagree? |

There's a lot of nice people on here who may come off as insulting, but really I've learned that's interpretation. Incidentally, if you played a musical instrument for over 30 years, don't you think that, at some point, you would be playing something completely spontaneous? That's like asking me if I'd ever hit a C sharp minor seventh!!! I think I have. If you're insulted by my cheese grater comment, then I do apologize but it was NOT directed at you really. I was merely pointing out that dealing with you seems to be pretty childish as evidenced in the 38 different threads you're participating in currently. I also have a few Queen books, though I'm not nearly as esteemed as a lot of you people here are. I do NOT have your book as of yet, but it seems you would WANT me to buy it. Right now, I wouldn't buy your book just because of the way you advertise yourself here. Perhaps you need a publicist. Finally, I like your haircut. Please stop being so abrasive and over the top. It really isn't needed here. You'll find that you will receive the respect you deserve by the way you come off to people. I'm not responding though- I find your insults rather amusing, old boy, you're very good at the old put down, perhaps less so at your job, a career in writing Angus deayton's jokes awaits perhap ************* ASTERIK... silly boy. Answer the question. You evaded it rather conspicuously. Stop trying, unskillfully, to avoid the point. Stop hiding and dodging. Be a man and give me your honest reaction. NO BULLSHIT, come on... answer my point. GB PS. we know about MULL OF KINTYRE now, and STL. OK, it's known now. Move on to something original Asterprik. It's very boring you keep repeating what we alread.y knowHow could I possibly answer old chap? You're being far too witty to let me hog the limelight. |

Stuart moved into the Queen Archive room and nobody told me? link Sorry if there are children on Moanzone tonight, but I'm gonna spew again.. link GENUINE 'QUEEN LIVE' SERIOUS CHALLENGE FOR QZ-ers. link NEW BOOK ON QUEEN IN THE STUDIO link Greg, for better or worse you are the Official face of the Queen archive, and to write the above under the guise of your authorized title, is both an insult and a slap in the face to us all, and is a blatant misuse of the authority and trust placed in you by the band and fans alike. Any one else would (correctly) be hammered as a spammer. |

Forgive me for repeating myself, but, I am posting this everywhere the Official Queen Archivist can read it, to remind him of the promise he made to me on 11th July 2006 .
Now there is no excuse to say that he did not see it, or that he overlooked my mail.
Therefore, if you a man of your word, and can you please reply to the request below?
John S Stuart wrote: Therefore, I accept your very kind offer;link Queen Archivist: "If John S. Stuart would like to make the extent of his knowledge known to us all, including the things he 'thinks' exist, and he puts it on the table, I will confirm or not that they exist or not. NO confusion, no guessing, no misleading misinformation. John, what do you REALLY know. What do you REALLY have to offer as fact?" As I have been so free with my version of events re: Queen II recording sessions, and I have placed all my knowledge "...on the table", I hope you can oblige and let me know EXACTLY where I have gone wrong. I really look forward to reading your informative reply, John S. Stuart |

Queen Archivist wrote: But ask Lester about it, because reading your post I think you are not exactly knowing what the precise subject is to be. I HEARD IT WAS ABOUT QUEEN IN THE STUDIO. EVERY OTHER FACET OF QUEEN IS ALREADY COVERED.Oh really? When's that box set of demos coming out then? Seriously. That's probably the only Queen purchase I'm making from here on out. All this rereleasing, remastering, and rehashing is getting on my nerves. I know you can't answer for the entirety of Queen Productions, but is there any chance of using whatever political will you have to push this project ahead of any other tasks in the bin? Queen Archivist wrote: .... ARE YOU CREATING ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE, OTHER THAN WORDS THAT NO-ONE OTHER THAN YOU IS INTERESTED IN???? DO YOU DO ANYTHING WORTHWHILE YOU CAN TELL US ABOUT RIGHT NOW? NAME US 1 THING. DO YOU DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN KNOCK OTHER PEOPLE???I try to. My sprite comic is about to hit #170, and has had a good-sized following for a while. Not Queen-related, but showing that not everyone here is writing "words that no one other than you [are] interested in." I also try to be as civil as possible in talking with people both on and off boards. Using proper spelling & punctuation, easing off the CAPS LOCK, things like that. In conclusion, Mr. Brooks, I don't believe that you give us here in Queenzone a fair shake, especially those who are truly interested in Queen, and absorbing every little facet of information possible. Me, I'm just waiting until I can hear Face It Alone without giving my liver to a smarmy trader. *Note: Suigi does not take any responsibility for the remarks coming from his mouth, or any caps-locked controversial remarks from repliers. This is a message board, people. Distance yourself.* |
