Are there some people who already bought the new edition of "Queen" Live by Greg Brooks. Is it the same size as the first edition, because some online shops say it's in paperback. Michael |

It's not out yet, is it? |
michaelkars 13.06.2005 15:07 |
yes : link and (in Dutch): link |
Maz 13.06.2005 15:10 |
Well, how did that sneak on by? I'm interested in what changes might be in this new edition, too. |
bohemian 11513 13.06.2005 15:25 |
...no changes anyway, as Queen didn´t go on tour after 1986! :-)) |
wstüssyb 13.06.2005 15:25 |
Dunno why you would buy it, when Martin offers that and more for free, you can always print his stuff and make a book ^ ^ |
Saint Jiub 13.06.2005 17:23 |
False alarm - same old book, same cover - published in 1995. Kee p following the links - you will see. |

TeoT 17.06.2005 09:13 |
I get the book today, really a lot to read. But I wondered, the book is smaller then I thought. It has 292 pages (not 176 like the describtion at amazon sys) and is paperback. |
Bohardy 17.06.2005 10:52 |
Just to confirm that indeed the updated version is now out. I nought my copy today. It's a lot smaller, has new prologue by Greg from Jan 2005, and a foreword from Brian from late 2004. I don't own the original so can't comment on any further differences. There are acknowledgements to plenty of posters here from Greg, the most amusing being to our beloved Inu Yasha, whose name is misspelled. |
Fenderek 17.06.2005 10:56 |
So it is out. Amazing!!! We'll see, we'll see... If he fucked up- there is no excuse really, is there? |

I have it. My copy came down yesterday. Its got some nice pics.. |
Fenderek 17.06.2005 12:12 |
Could someone compare the two- old and new? I'm interested in the info in it, no pictures or format. Question is- is it good? If yes- FINALLY. If not... Well... |
rachael mae. 17.06.2005 12:19 |
I havent seen the old one, but Greg reckons its now 99% accurate... compared to 90%.. Of course, I realise this is of no use to you, but.. |
The Real Wizard 17.06.2005 12:56 |
Yeah, it's fair to say the old book was about 90% accurate. There were hundreds of mistakes. I and several others submitted corrections to Greg, so hopefully this edition will be much more accurate. My copy should be arriving any day now from Greg. |
Bohardy 17.06.2005 15:43 |
Ok, as I said, I don't own the original version, but today I read up to about 1975 and already I cannot believe the amount of mistakes I've noticed. And I'm not even a live expert. The book clearly hasn't been proofread, or if it has, it was by a 6 year old. In 50 or so pages, I've spotted at least 15 typos/spelling mistakes ("ocassion", "esculate")/grammatical errors/omitted words, which is unforgiveable if you ask me, because I'm a pedant. There are also blatant contradictions and inconsistencies in the text, sometimes in the space of a couple of entries/paragraphs. For a start, the intro from the 1995 edition is included as well as the new foreword, yet despite the earlier foreword being listed as by Greg in August 95, it's clearly written in 2004. WTF? As for the nuts and bolts of it - the setlists and concert info - I can't comment on how accurate or improved they are, as I don't have the knowledge and expertise, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the experts here still find mistakes. It still looks an awesome book to me, and it's obviously a fantastic resource, I just find it incredible that such an error-ridden book like this could be publised and printed in the state it's in. |
Mr. Scully 24.06.2005 06:36 |
OK, I got it yesterday (thanks, Greg) but I'm not impressed. First of all, I would expect a link to my site. Considering he used about 80% of memorabilia from my site (the resized scans in the book look really bad though - I wonder why) and about 5 pages are a direct 1:1 copy from my site (typical setlists of tours, info about support bands etc.). Yet he links to some sites incl. some "QOLBreakthru" MSN community which I have never heard of. Strange. It's a Queen Live book, isn't it? What else does he want to credit if not a Queen Live site? :-) Oh wait, I found my name among the 100+ credited people... he got it wrong though (Scully is my nickname though and definitely NOT my real name :-) I read only a few pages so far, got to 1972... I wonder why he doesn't list the Marquee 1972 setlist (considering there IS a recording available, owned by Queen I think). Some info from the prologue: 1. There probably won't be any live DVD at all - HamOdeon 75 was considered but abandoned. 2. There are few audio recordings in Queen vaults, he says "probably 10%". |
Lester Burnham 24.06.2005 10:22 |
I'm a bit disappointed to hear of this, but I wasn't expecting all that much anyway. I still pre-ordered it, but it's going to take a few weeks to get here (damn). It would be a nice replacement for my well-worn original, but with such resources as Martin's site, it's obviously against some tough competition. From the sound of it, Martin's site is clearly superior in every way (not that that's a revelation, of course). I won't judge it myself until I actually get it, but I find it weird that there are such amazing, glossy books about The Who (''Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere''), Led Zeppelin (''Led Zeppelin Live'', which is unfortunately out of print and mucho expensive to buy used), and Pink Floyd (''In The Flesh'', ''Wearing The Inside Out''), yet absolutely fuck all for Queen. |

>>Is it worth buying this book? >..depends on how much you wanna spend! No. Use Martin's website instead - he isn't trying to make money out of other fans, where as Greggy-boy clearly is. Has he included the MISSING concerts from the 1977 tour? Has he left out the pointless lists at the end of the book? Are the pictures annotated correctly? Has he bothered to go back over the WHOLE original and correct everything? I doubt it. |
Lester Burnham 24.06.2005 11:44 |
I found the bootleg list at the end useless. And the live discography? Well, that's great, but why not just do a solo concertography instead? |
rachael mae. 24.06.2005 12:14 |
I also noticed A LOT of spelling errors etc, and some concert setlists completely clashed with what I've seen or heard. Even as a beginner when it comes to bootlegs I know I trust Mr Scully more than I trust Greg Brooks. How can he get things so wrong when he has complete access to the Queen vaults? I noticed (may be wrong though) that he said KYA was played at the Golders Green. I haven't seen this anywhere else and I'm pretty certain that on my audio recording the broadcaster mentions that they wouldn't be playing KYA... hmm... |
Saint Jiub 24.06.2005 19:37 |
Sounds like an easy decision not to buy the revised book given that ther still are a lot of errors. It would be nice if Mr Scully's site was available as a book (with a bonus CD of his web site as well) ... dreams sweet dreams I really did not want to buy Greg's book (given his internet behavior), and I guess it is an easy decision for me not to. |
Rick 25.06.2005 05:47 |
Which book of Queen is definiately worth buying? Killer Queen is very nice book, but very expensive! |
Mr. Scully 25.06.2005 05:56 |
I may be wrong here but I think the new book includes only known setlists while the old edition included ALL setlists - mostly guessed and with errors. So this is an improvement. Greg says he "forgot" to credit my site so it will apparently appear in the next edition (supposing the first batch - 5000 copies - sells out). Greg's advantage is the access to the official live archive. So I think he describes in the book some concerts that haven't been bootlegged. The bootleg discography is IMO useless - because new bootlegs are being issued every week :-) Btw. my site is dynamic (based on PHP and a huge database) - it's impossible to distribute it on CD-ROM. |
agneepath! 11994 25.06.2005 06:06 |
You have to be pretty stupid to forget to acknowledge Martin's site. Just proves how thorough Greg Brooks really is. |

In the book he says that "only HamOdeon 75" was being considered but now it seems that "most likely" it won't be released either. Or something like that. Two months ago he said in MoJo that "HamOdeon 75 will be more likely released". Don't know what's true :-) |

What are some of the concerts he gives reviews for that are not on Bootleg? Has he fixed the Zurich shows from 1986? If I remember in the past book he claimed no "WWTLF" was played 2nd or 1st night in Zurich when in fact it was, heard the 2nd night had tech problems and the didnt finish it and no "IWTBF" just skipped to the jam and Brian's solo, so Im looking to see if it is true and he reviewed that show And any new Magic info? =) |
Negative Creep 27.06.2005 09:17 |
The bootleg list at the back is pretty good. They are factory pressed CD bootlegs, not home made CD-R ones. Not that many Queen bootlegs are produced any more. Not many European bootlegs turn u pany more, but the Wardour label in Japan have started issuing them quite regularly now. |

King Rick I wrote: Which book of Queen is definiately worth buying? Killer Queen is very nice book, but very expensive! It is very nice and expensive, but it's enjoyable. They do some interesting formats with pages. With some of the photos, they collage it a bit. There are also some inserts of articles or interviews, one on each member (but I think I've seen half of these on the web, and I'm not a research freak about Queen). It's about an inch taller than the Beatles' Anthology. The content is actually pretty comparable to that Anthology (except for how it stops mid-Queen, though this is cause it has to do with Queen and Mick Rock, not just Queen). Comes in it's own box. Nicely bound. I think depending on where you get it, you can get it signed as well with COA. |
