For one thing, they enable you to figure out your Patheticness (is that a word? Never mind, I don't care) Quotient, which allows you to make logical decisions about whether or not you are spending way too much time on this board.
(For those interested, your Patheticness Quotient is your post count divided by the number of days you've been a member of QZ, which can be found via the old board.)
