I was expecting your magic on this one, Chief :-)
And once again, you delivered!
It looks beautiful! Thank you for sharing your work with us, and Brian's wig for sharing the original file. This is such a great performance, and being shot on film only adds to it's beauty.

Great job. Love John's bass line. Is this the only video recorded from the rehearsal? Any idea if there's more in the vaults?
If I'm not wrong, it was recorded for Top Of The Pops. I don't think there's any more in the vaults.
BTW, this has any difference with the version you (Chief) shared to me some time ago?

Yeah, it's better as the source is higher quality. BriansWig shared it several days ago.
Did you do that 50fps version just for me Chief because I'm always complaining about you deinterlacing video material?
If so you're a naughty little minx with a devilish sense of humour for making it look a bit like a video recording when it shouldn't be.... ;-)
LOL

To be honest, I did yeah :D But if it looked distorted (as happens with some videos depending on the setting, like fast motion) I wouldn't have done it though.
Hmmm, if it was originally shot on film, shouldn't it be slowed down to 24/48fps? :P
Supposedly they converted it for TV broadcasting by speeding it up to 25fps, and correcting the audio pitch afterwards?
They digitized it to a PAL tape or something, I suppose by speeding it up. I didn't want to mess with slowing it down. It's not like it's too fast it's obvious, like that SD version of Budapest that we had before Hungarian Rhapsody got released.
Excellent job as always, Chief !
Clearly this was assembled from multiple takes, as plenty of drum and guitar parts don't match the audio. Whoever edited this back in the day made some horrible creative decisions.
But aside from that, it's wonderful footage from 79.
Yes. Since it was shot on film and by the BBC (BBC Bristol Regional station I expect), it was more than likely done with a single 16mm camera over a number of takes and then very quickly edited in-house for a Regional news programme.
I reallly wish we had more info on this footage.

A very reliable source said it was for the South Bank Show on ITV, not the BBC.

The footage has always been been credited to the BBC for as long as I've been collecting (1986) and every VHS I've ever had with this footage on, regardless of the source, has said "BBC", hence that's why it is titled as such.
If it IS South Bank Show and can be verified publically by someone inside QPL, that would be great. Even better would be a broadcast date!
I'd like to think that whilst re-writing the "Queen Live" book (where is it guys???), Gary and Greg have discovered the correct details about this clip and we will find out soon enough.
