THE mystery of what happened to the huge statue of FREDDIE MERCURY when We Will Rock You closed has been solved. The golden likeness of the QUEEN frontman towered over Tottenham Court Road in central London when the musical ran.

Costa86, a littlebit jealous? Its nice that the statue owned is by Roger.
Not at all - I wouldn't mind having a small, discreet statue of Freddie in my garden (if I had a decent sized one, with a good place to put it in, rather than just placing is randomly in the middle). But I'd never want something like that - it's probably almost as high as his house. Whoever put it there has no concept of art and architecture.
Regardless of the aesthetics I'm glad it's in Roger's garden. At least it's somewhere relatively safe and likely to be appreciated.
So let's start a silly argument about whether it should be in Brian's instead. :-)

Absolutely; I think it's great that Roger has it - bearing in mind Brian's penchant for collecting, and his closeness to the musical, I'm just surprised he didn't bag it.
I wonder if it will go back up when the sequel goes live in a theatre??

Perhaps whoever put it there has no concept of art or architecture, but he may have a concept of friendship.
Roger has always said Freddie was his best friend. This is what best friends do. It does not matter how ridiculous Freddie's statue looks in his garden.
It just shows Roger's love for his old friend.
I really don't see how putting that huge statue, which I loved seeing in front of the Dominion (I have a photo of myself in front of it somewhere), in a GARDEN shows friendship.
We all know Roger respected and loved Freddie - he didn't need to put a massive monument to him in his garden. It's all a bit excessive and gaudy. I wouldn't have wanted that statue to be destroyed or anything, so I'm glad it's somewhere safe. But it still looks out of place - that's the point I'm driving.
When my grandma died, we didn't go all out with silly soppy songs in her funeral, and stupid speeches saying how much we loved her. She knew we loved her when she was alive, so we didn't need an extravagant show during her funeral. Same concept with the statue, if you know what I mean.
^^^^^ What you say makes perfect sense if Roger had a statue of Freddie made for his garden. That would have been ridiculous and absurd! But this is a different case. The statue was already there - had no specific home, so Roger took it in.
Costa86 I SO AGREE WITH ALL YOU SAY.
To me it seems the older Roger gets, the more his awfull taste shows. The guy is so shallow...
And while we are at it, let's face it: Brian never had any good taste. He is just a very intelligent person. With no taste.
To me, most things "Queen" have done the last 20 years or so show how big the influence must have been one Freddie Mercury had on the direction of the group as a whole. Stylewise, songwriting- wise, stage presentation etc etc. Queen without Freddie is Queen without taste and style.
No-one can really blame Brian and Roger for what they're doing under the name Queen. They are fully entitled to do as they please. I would've done the same. But to me it's clear they are missing Freddie's influence on the end product that made Queen such a great band.
RIP Freddie. RIP Queen.

Not only does Rogers garden have the statue and wooden drum kit birthday present, it also features the gong that used to feature in Quee's live shows.
I can't believe what some people can make a silly argument about! If Roger wants to put the Statue of his best friend in his garden so what? I could understand it if he'd plonked it down in your garden!

what a humble and charming thing to do by roger than to get the Freddie statue
sent over to his garden, fantastic and well deserved!
Freddie would have loved the fact that he has come full circle and ended up with roger again
just like in the beginning, bless!
