Total fucking shambles. By all accounts SBC had been going to town with his familiarisation of Freddie for the role and had obviously suggested things that Messrs T & M had not been happy with. Thoroughly depressing as his involvement would have given the film a significant lift. Really not interested now. Stick Adam Lambert in and fucking forget about it now! |

If they did put Adam Lambert in that role, it would guarantee that no Queen fans would see the movie. |
Snackpot 22.07.2013 22:12 |
We're more likely to see an album of John Deacon making an unexpected return the limelight with a cover album of Janis Joplin songs, than this. We still haven't got GVH3 for fuck sake. How hard can that be to produce? Just stick the videos from Innuendo on a DVD and throw in some solo stuff for filler. If they cant manage that fuck knows how we expect them to produce a movie. |
Missreclusive 22.07.2013 23:12 |
Well, I'm not encouraging medusa however, I'm not unhappy about the news. Frankly, I think there are others who could do far better than SBC....just sayin. AND swla... I would go see it if AL played the part. I'm not a fan of his as you know but I would see it. |

At least this probably explains the troubles with the film Brian has been referring to lately. |

Someone on this site will be very pleased.......! Whilst the 'Hollywood machine' will want a 'warts n all' film that reveals the behind the scenes, Brian and Roger have to stick to their guns on this one and make the film that they want, with the story they want to tell - after all. it's their legacy, their life etc... I personally don't see this ever happening, and to me that's no great loss really - if you want the story of Queen, you can do a lot worse than watching the Days of Our Lives documentary. As others say, just concentrate on the musical legacy - 5.1 HD mixes, live 70s releases, archive sets, along with new studio material and some live work with credible artists - Brian has too many fingers in too many uncooked pies that he simply loses interest in after a while. |
lowetalk 23.07.2013 03:34 |
What a shame. This movie is a FREDDIE biopic NOT "The Story of Queen". There is a difference. Sacha would have poured his heart into this role and been phenomenal in portraying a just and compelling tale of his life. As Freddie would say, "warts and all". Freddie would die a second death to learn his biopic was being restricted to "careful and BORING" - his nightmare. |

There's no point in speculating whether this is a good or bad decision. We don't know what SBC's vision's were for the film, he said he's a huge Freddie fan but anybody who's heard the greatest hits thinks that. He may have had some awful suggestions, he may have had some good ones, we don't know. To be honest, i'm happy that this is happen. If the film has to happen (which, i'm not sure it does), then i was never keen on SBC playing it anyway. I like SBC very much and i enjoy his TV work and films. However, i worried people were believing he would be good in the role simply because he had a moustache in Borat. People would say 'he looks so much like Freddie Mercury', when i honestly think he doesn't. Also, he's about a foot taller than Freddie, it would have looked weird. I know you can't get too hung up on appearances, as nobody's going to be the spit of Freddie and be a talented actor etc. But I dunno, it always bugged me. |
Togg 23.07.2013 05:06 |
Personally I am not bothered as to who plays the lead role so long as they do a good job, I suspect there will be a dozen or so solid actors who could take up the part. Would be interesting to know want the creative differences where? was he trying to make it too comedic? or too sensational? I suspect Queen want a none warts and all story with freddie being played as a hero, which whilst it might be nice wouldn't be the full story... I hope it gets back off the ground soon so they can get back to doing more music work |
Marknow 23.07.2013 06:50 |
Hated the fact that SBC was cast in this film as Fred, with that said it does at least look like he was trying to push the film in a more honest direction than B & R & Co. feel is necessary. Of course they are concious of their legacy and that of Mr. Mercury after all the film is about him, it's his biopic, of course it is up to them how that is portrayed. The question remains will it be an honest portrait of Freddie? Will they tell the story of a shy man looking for love in life who was a musical genius? In doing so will they ignore the more hedonistic side of Freddie which is well publicised although sometimes exaggerated? Will all the exciting bits get glossed over revealing an almost Disney like Freddie? No Wacko Jacko with Llamas in the studio and Freddie begging Jim Beach to get him the fuck out of there asap? Freddie did 16 metric tons of Coke will Elton in a period of a few years, is all that going to be brushed under the carpet along with the other great stories? I get the feeling that many die-hard Queen fans will be left feeling bored by a diluted version of what the Biopic could be. B & R should simply sit down with the writers give them as many stories as possible for creating a script, and then piss off. But oh no they cannot do that, the temptation to be involved as Producers and Directors as well as having final say on the script is too much of an opportunity to pass up for them, control freaks. B & R you guys are musicians, yeah you have had some stage success with WWRY, but back the fuck off. This is Hollywood, a whole new ball game you guys no fuck all about. You are going to piss this film down to nothing and when it is poorly received on release you will put the blame firmly on somebody else's shoulders, as usual. Walk away before you wreck it guys. |

If the film it is to be a decent movie I don't understand how i can stop at the Magic tour as rumoured. Surely the most 'cinematic' element of Freddie's life his his up-bringing and battle with AIDS together with personal relationships. Seems as if the movie they want to make is 'he sung some songs, was a nice bloke. Did well out of life' . It would be quite a dull movie. Unless it concentrates on his struggles where's the interest? Will the plot focus around how he managed to hit a middle #C during the middle of a long tour? |
Donna13 23.07.2013 07:41 |
This news is a relief. It would have been great as a spoof though. Final scene: Brian and Roger discussing the reasons it didn't work with SBC and flashes of SBC trying to catch a taxi while wearing his leotard, eye liner running, etc. |

I for one am happy that this imbecile has walked away from the film. Last thing the fans want to see is Hollywood sensationalising certain aspects of Freddie's character just to make a Minority Social Group feel good about themselves. Hollywood has not been very reliable with facts in recent years, all to cater to the lowest denominator. Most people/fans admired Freddie for his music and abilities as an amazing vocalist. I hope the film portrays the relationships between the band members inside/outside the studio. The concerts I have heard on YT during 85 (except Live Aid) were disappointing, especially Freddie who let his high standards slip due to excesses plus Roger and that awful synth drum sound. Did the other Band members take Freddie to task for his lack of live performance why he wasn't keen to tour in the future? |
Marknow 23.07.2013 08:26 |
This comment from another forum says it all "What a terrible waste of potential. This project should be shelved now" Says everything that needs to be said, SBC leaving is irrelevant any number of actors could easily do the roll better. The reasons he left are the point here. Hope it does run out of steam and never sees the light of day, probably will do too. Can't see this ever getting made. Freddie Mercury November 1991 "You can do what you want with my music," he said, "but don't make me boring." Well Fred your mates have just stuck two fingers up at you. |

With sbc there I figured he would just be out there to ride the gay chic thing and have some controversial kisses and sex scene stuff. Just sensationalism. Which I guess you couldn't really separate from the man's life... but in a telling up to 85' I just don't see why. Also. .. don't like his "dramatic roles" |

Everyone in the audience knows how the story ends, so there's no point in spending millions of dollars shooting it. You could make a movie based on two days of Freddie's life: One in his hedonistic phase before he was worried about AIDS, and another when he's realised he's been infected with the disease. |

I don't think it is just about Freddie only. I remember Brian saying in his website that he was very particular about how they did his hair for the Lego figure of himself. He would be just as particular about he would be portrayed in the film. I think the production people foresee that there would no end to the band members supervising how the film should be done and so it is better to give up now. |

Well there is a thing I noticed on this whole subject of SBC dropping out. (Not here but on other forums/sites) People don't seem to realise that this film isn't only about Freddie being bisexual or his relationships, (that by the way are private and maybe Brian and Roger are trying to protect them) it's his whole life. I know Freddie said "don't make me boring", but I'm pretty sure this didn't involve showing his whole personal life. Also to the people that are talking shit about Brian and Roger, they can simply fuck off. In the end, they have been a big part of Freddie's life and they know him better than we do. |

When he told Jim Beach not to make him boring, he was talking about his work. Definitely not about his personal life. Why do I get the feeling I am addressing one person here? "People don't seem to realise that this film isn't only about Freddie being bisexual or his relationships" Do you think we all want to see a gay porno flick or something? "I know Freddie said "don't make me boring", but I'm pretty sure this didn't involve showing his whole personal life. " A biographical film, or biopic (/'ba??p?k/; abbreviation for biographical motion picture), is a film that dramatizes the life of an actual person or people. Such films show the life of a historical person and the central character’s real name is used.[1] They differ from films "based on a true story" or “historical films”in that they attempt to comprehensively tell a person’s life story or at least the most historically important years of their lives. It is a well known fact that Freddie was far from "PG" in his life, and we are not just talking about sex and drugs here. A biopic with a PG rating will be a disservice to the man he was, and to those who watch it. "Exactly. Freddie was always very private about his personal life. When he told Jim Beach not to make him boring, he was talking about his work. Definitely not about his personal life." Again, you seem to be under the impression everybody wants to see a gay porno for some reason. "Also to the people that are talking shit about Brian and Roger, they can simply fuck off. In the end, they have been a big part of Freddie's life and they know him better than we do." So, B & R have the right to define Freddie because they knew him so well? As Freddie himself once said re Queen "We don't hang out together or anything like that, we have very different interests" Of course B & R should provide information and stories to help the script, then they should fuck off and leave the people who know what they are doing at it. This film is never gonna happen, QP want to see a Disney type of Biopic. Which is not a true reflection of the man at all. Freddie Mercury The Biopic (PG) my arse..... It won't be too long before the production company, De Niro and Co. say so long lads. |

"Never make me boring" was a fine quote, but you can see how quickly things go awry when the author is being represented by a guy who is completely out of touch with reality. It loses some of the meaning, put it that way. |

I'm glad we're not going to see "a sleazy R-rated tell all film" I'm not convinced it would've been anyway - surely Queen Productions would want to use the film to promote the back catalogue and the Queen Extravaganza tours to as many people as possible - and the "tell all" bit - hasn't that already been done in various books and stuff? |

If SBC was as devoted as he thinks he was then he would have respect for Brian and Roger and stop taking over the film with his ideas. Brian and Rog knew Freddie better than anybody else so they have a right to turn down ridiculous ideas of barons. Best to just drop the film completely and work on some new Queen project for the fans. |

Money would be an issue and I know it's been mentioned before but Johnny Depp would be my choice. Despite his age Depp is a chameleon and puts his heart into every role. |

Do we have somewhere the script, and all the ideas of SBC that were rejected? For all we know, SBC could have been pushing for this to be an actual biopic about Freddie, while Brian and Rog were interested in making it a recreation of the band's musical triumph. The good thing is that if the movie does one day appear, and is nothing more than a "music documentary recorded with actors", at least we know who's responsible for the end result... |

But what is this movie going to be? What's the point of making 'The Freddie Mercury story' if all you're going to show is him at work? I don't get what the plot will be. It seems as if they want to make something as pointless or abstract as the musical. His life has a cinematic build-in story. Unorthodox upbringing, amazing success, tragic demise. How can you agree to a movie and not realise this? What movie do B&R want? A man used to sing a bit. What will be the plot? The tense moment he tries to rid himself of a slight head-cold before a concert? That's bound to be a cliff hanger. It does seem as if they want as dull, sanitised and filtered representation of Freddie's life as possible. SBC is an actor (to some degree) and would want to get to the heart of the character and get to know his and be able to show his emotions and vulnerabilities. But if all he's allowed to do is show 'public Freddie' then what's the point? |
