"In The Beginning", from Miko company. From the silvers. De Lane Lea Demos, 1971. Excellent stereo studio recording. Lineage : In The Beginning (silvers) -> Wav (EAC) -> Flac (Frontend level 8) Here is one for Pittrek especially, and for everyone who wants to know more about Queen in the early days. It is also a good way to compare the demo and the final release, on the first Queen album (buy it if you don't have, and buy the second one too !). Compare the production and see how polished Queen's work is when the product is ready for commercial release. This one contains the De Lane Lea demos from 1971. As said on the sleeve (see complete artwork), those files were used by Queen to sign a contract with music companies. They were recorded in a studio for free, a way to test the studio which was brand new. They needed a band who could play loud, and Brian May met one of the persons involved in the setting up of this studio. Once again, "The Night Comes Down" has been deleted from this share, as the file was also used on the official release. Follow this link for reference : link Tracklisting : 01. Keep Yourself Alive 02. The Night Comes Down 03. Great King Rat 04. Jesus 05. Liar Files are checked as perfectly lossless by Audiochecker, which means we don't have something coming from a bootleg company who used lossy files as that can happen sometimes. Which simply means quality is preserved, from the day it was recorded to nowadays, no loss of quality. So please don't try and waste this, just as some south american blogs made by uploading these tracks (including the official one, out of respect for the band). Just try and use lossless, nothing difficult. If you can't, then make them mp3, but don't trade them, nor sell them etc... Keep it for you. That's said, in an aside. Now, enjoy, and compare the quality with the tracks previously shared in the "For Dreamers Only" topic. You will find two archive files, containing music files of course, complete artwork, info.txt and various logs and txt files which for you can mean nothing but are appreciated by the persons who would receive it from a trade with you. Feel free to modify them or create new ones if you wish, but don't forget to keep the information as complete as possible. Just as with concerts, lineage will be appreciated in your possible next shares. When I listen to that, I just think about 4 french words : "crême de la crême". 1971 demos for your ears and it's just like caviar for your mouth... Well, I don't like caviar anyway. Those 5 songs are essential in my opinion for every collection as well as for curious people wanting to discover a little more things about Queen in the early days. Pre-Queen is also very interesting ! Hope you'll like it. Time to go to sleep now. Here are the files : link link Good night everyone ! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Too much, Daffy, if you want to thank me, just do it by adding your own comments to those files maybe ? I don't know if there are several versions of these demos, which ones are the best ones. This bootleg is a must-have in my opinion, but maybe better versions exist also. They were also included in the "For Dreamers Only" boot for example. Maybe it could be great to know where the best version can be found !! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Regards, Olivier, France. The silver pressed bootleg 'In the beginning' (the original MIKO QCD01 version) IS the best version available of this demotape. This in fact comes directly from the mastertapes. The mastertapes were bought in 1993 by a Dutch private collector who made the 'In the beginning' cd's. All the other versions of these demo's on other silver pressed bootlegs are taken from these cd's. There were no 'upgrades' or 'remasters' of these demo's after 'In the beginning'. The mastertapes were never played again after the first transfer to cd and are still safely tuck away in the collector's cupboard. |

Hi Jjeroen, thanks for the explanation !! Quite interesting facts, a singular view "behind the scenes" in the bootleggers world. Could you please tell us where do you know that from maybe ? Is there a website or something gathering that sort of information maybe ? PS : some comments I found made by an Ebay seller who sold this one recently : "QUEEN RARE 5 TRACKS In the beginning . . . The one and only excisting real demo cd. Taken from a tape, recorded at the De Lane Lea Studio's in London in the late 1971, Queen sent to a few recordcompanies trying to get a contract. Soundquality is really perfect. On a scale of ten it gets a nine. Important historical "document". Is absolutely a "must" in every Queen collection. Issued in 1994, limited edition 1000 copies. Tracklisting: 5 tracks Keep yourself alive 3:37:64" The night comes down 4:18:52" Great King Rat 6:01:55" Jesus 5:00.71" Liar 7:45:73" After recording the first Queen LP, Queen wasn't satisfied with the recording of The night comes down and they used the version of this tape for the album. The other 4 songs are all different from the versions on Queen I. "Around September 1971, Brian May met up with an old friend, Terry Yeadon, who was involved in the setting up of a new recording studio in Wembley called De Lane Lea. The studio needed musicians to try out the new equipment they had installed - and preferably a band who could play loud ! The deal was that the musicians would record using the equipment, and potential studio users would be on hand to hear and watch them. In return for their services the band could record their demos for free. It was an opportunity not to be missed and, of course, Queen jumped at it. Not only would they be able to make the all important demo tapes, but they would have ample occasion to meet producers and engineers, people who could be vital to their future" The above quote is taken from the accompanying booklet featured with the cd which, in itself, has been lifted from the Jacky Gunn and Jim Jenkins official biography 'Queen - As it began'. ( So one more time: thank you Jacky, thank you Jim ) In hindsight this was probably the most succesful piece of luck that Queen could have at that point in their career. It gave the band a chance to experience the workings of a studio." Regards, Olivier, France. |

Queenrockyou 04.05.2008 07:27 |
Yep, the song was delibarately taken off this share, read the first message of this topic : "Once again, "The Night Comes Down" has been deleted from this share, as the file was also used on the official release." That's why you can't find the song ! Regards, Olivier, France. |
Adam Baboolal 04.05.2008 07:59 |
I'm also having loads of trouble with Rapidshare. Its system requires me to enter a passkey with a cat under each correct letter. This would be fine except it's too damn difficult to make out the cat! Bloody rapidshite. Sorry, but it's really annoying when you're trying to download some quality stuff here and rapidshare gets in the way of that. Please ANYONE, put thie boot on something like Mediafire or Savefile. Btw, I'd consider upping "The night comes down" because it's direct from the boot that hasn't be mastered like the album was. Therefore, technically, it is different. :) But seriously, for someone like me who is interested in hearing the difference between the before and after sound of this track, how do I get hold of it? Thanks, Adam. EDIT: Just managed to get the first part after 3 goes. Just gotta wait an hour and a half till I get the last part now... |
tassilo 04.05.2008 08:22 |
Sorry Olivier, I didn't read this;-) Thanks for the share! |
Queenrockyou 04.05.2008 09:12 |
So this is a direct call to moderators, dear Barb, do you think we can share THE NIGHT COMES DOWN from this, as the opinions differ ? If you tell me I can, then I would upload it, but if your advice was to avoid sharing it, then I won't. Please make the light, you have the final say here ! Regards, Olivier, France. |

Thanks very much for sharing this, ruth :) Especially with the addition of TNCD, which contrary to everything I've heard before, is in fact a totally different mix/has extra vocals, etc. I wonder if all the people who said it was identical to the album were just hoarding it, or were honestly that hard of hearing? Thanks again! |

Yes, and I was saying that the BBC version of Black Queen is slightly different from the album version :-) |
Deacon Fan 05.05.2008 10:42 |
Yeah, and what if it were to backfire? I mean.. let's say in our imaginary world that the BBC stuff or these demos were officially released.. and they leave things off because "The fans said they were identical to the album versions" so we get screwed out of higher quality official versions because some don't hear subtle differences or whatever.. |
