A significant part of his first proper solo album (Back To The Light) was already finished and Brian was asked to organize a concert of guitar legends for the Expo '92 exhibition in Sevilla. He certainly did a good job - his guests included Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt and Joe Walsh (all on guitars). The show lasted over two hours and was broadcasted all around the world.

The gig was played at Fat Tuesdays, a small nightclub that Les Paul played once a week for many years. On this night, they were filming part of a home video called Guitar, narrated by guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter of Steely Dan fame. But the released video included only part of Early Morning Blues.

Another fan club party with The Cross as the main act and Brian as a special guest who joined them for the last four songs. The moment when Brian walks on the stage is great: although the fans KNEW he would come, their reaction was spontaneous anyway. This was a fan club party where The Cross were joined by Brian and John for the last four songs. Brian comes to the stage, starts playing a couple of chords of Dust My Broom but then stops and says: "OK guys, I guess we need a little more help. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. John Deacon". The fans go crazy, of course. One of the very few appearances of three Queen members together. Mike Moran and Chris Thompson were special guests that night (Spike Edney was on tour). The recording is available on bootleg video

Concert info 29.05.1985 Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK (with REO Speedwagon)

Mark Moss says: "I went to the REO Speedwagon show in 1985 when Brian came on stage and played, in your notes you said that there was some confusion as some say that John Entwistle played that day and not Brian - in fact they both came on and played the song! I had a front row ticket and was wearing my Works T shirt. Brian was great, he gave me a nod and a wink and played part of the song right in front of me! Great memories. I saw REO 2 years in a row at the Odeon; the first year they had Alvin Lee and John Entwistle (1984) and the following year John Entwistle and Brian."

Photo: Guest appearance: Brian May live in Duke Of York's Theatre, London, UK (Capital radio Guitar masterclass) [20.11.1983]

Brian's first proper solo performance came in November 1983. Brian was invited to the Capital Radio to show a couple of his tricks on guitar. He played an old traditional song in a form of medieval music called Pavan and taught a couple of students how to play it. In the end of this short session he also played a very short guitar solo and part of Love Of My Life. A full recording exists (it was broadcasted on the radio and apparently also released on casette).
