i remember about a programmed queen concert in vatikan, rome, does anybody remember it was 1986 magic tour, or 1984 the works??
apart from that, why did not they play in italy during 1986?

Yes,I remember,it was 1984 The Works tour. They played at Sanremo 2 evenings(playback) and at Palazzetto dello Sport in Milan,2 concerts.I don't know why they didn't play in Italy on 1986,maybe they preferred to go to new places like Hungary or simply they didn't want it.Maybe they preferred to go to countries which required them mostly...I don't know..Unfortunately in Italy in that period the most of people required boy bands like Duran Duran,Europe or Spandau Ballet.
There was a lot of Queen fans naturally, but the most was boy bands fans.
No so much Italian cover magazines dedicated to Queen during 80s,the most was dedicated to boy bands.
Bye

Sono italiano ma ti devo scrivere in inglese per fare capire tutti! ;-)

They had to play there in '84,but finally the permission was refused. There were also technical problems: they needed a great amount of energy to make the gig, not reperible in Vaticano. And several other logistical problems. Finally, Queen didn't play in Italy in '86 because they were very much disappointed by not having sold out the previous 2 concerts in '84,Milano. They couldn't find here in Italy a promoter that satisfied them, and garantee a good promotion for the show. Ciao!

I must say I was surprised when I read that the two Milano concerts were not sold out at all. Italy has always been known for devoted Queen fans, it's strange. Maybe they're devoted but there are not so many of them :)

well,I can say you that Queen were of course the most popular stranger band in Italy during the period 77-82 , and for years their show was the much expected and awaited. Then, when they finally came here in Italy,we were in mid eighties,a period dominated by Duran Duran, Spandau ballet, and with a great interest in our own italian acts. But the fact was really surprising, also because Queen had had a umber one single and album a few months before, and a stunning and very appreciated exihibition at Sanremo was held back in February(and that is why they decided to return in Italy during the Works Tour)........In the first half of September, Milano was full of concerts, every evening a show, and there was also a saturation effect on the rock audience. The promotion was also not very good. I know that Queen were very disappointed to not sold out, also because it was theit first show in Italy and they expected it. So ,they not return in 86.

Yes,right.Today there are really lots and lots of Queen fans in Italy but I have to admit that the most of Queen fans nowadays, started to listen Queen after 1991/92.It's a shame!
