'Play the Game' from Montreal 81

Posted on 22.01.2004 18:39:30
I have been listening to Play The Game from Montreal 81 DVD and I think that the Freddie's vocal track of the first verse+chorus is an overdub taken from Milton Keynes 82... listen to the main vocals of two versions and both sound pretty similar...

what do you think???

Which version of the DVD are you referring to? There have been 2 or 3 DVD releases of this one.

But no, I'm seriously doubting it was overdubbed from a show from 6 months later.

I reffer to the Pionner dvd version...

but I'm not sure about that overdub, the vocals in both versions sound pretty similar, it's just an observation...
but who knows?

looking back over it, it doesnt appear to be overdubbed at all.

Isn't it a case of the visuals were from one night and the audio was from another. i.e. it was recorded over two nights and there were some mix and matching?

In other words the two won't line up perfectly in sync.

I dont think it is from MK 82, however it does look slightly out of sync at the beginning of the song. But what about 'Now Im Here' from WWRY, it not only looks out of sync (vocal), to me it sounds different to the rest of the songs as if the vocal was recorded at a later date. I have never heard the audience bootlegs from these two shows so can't say for sure, has anyone heard the audience recordings ?, are they different ?.

By the way I have just remembered that the Milton Keynes show was played at concert pitch and the two Montreal shows were tuned up a semi-tone, so it is unlikely that the vocal line came from MK 82'.
