Question

Hi,

I've got one question I couldn't answer myself: Why did Queen never make a big tour after 86?

Turak

1987 - Fred was busy with Barcelona, Roger was busy with the Cross

1988 - Brian was busy with Back To The Light (he started to record it in this year), Fred with Barcelona, Roger with The Cross

1989 - For making a tour you need a medical certificate, which Fred couldn't obtain for his illness even though he felt ok.

1990 - Same reason

1991 - Same reason

So actually there were no more "real" queen concerts after 86?

No

I have heard Brian May say that Queen did consider doing a few small shows in 1989 but Fred decided not to because he didnt want to do any shows and not be able to give 100%, and in 1990-91 he was so ill he was bearly able to work in the studio let alone do a tour. Having HIV/Aids does not stop you doing concerts, it had nothing to do with a medical certificate.

Being HIV positive doesn't avoid obtaining a medical permisson for a tour, but Fred's illness was advanced enough in '89 for being allowed to make a tour even though he could do it.

It's like alcohol level on a driver, it's a standard. Some people can drive perfectly in level 3 but some others lose control in level 1, so they have to make a standard for everyone.

but what about the show must go on video? wasn't the song released in 1991? And the video of that song is more or less a concert video with a vast number of people....

Posted on 17.01.2004 15:47:11
the show must go on video is a compilation. it takes scenes from '85 and '86 concerts as well as from '82 to '91 videos

Posted on 17.01.2004 23:32:17
well ok, but then the scenes shown in the video do not actually belong to the song "the show must go on"? or was the song released before 91?

Posted on 18.01.2004 01:05:18
The song was released in 1991, but the footage is taken from '82-'91 videos as well as from '85-'86 concerts...

so actually the statement: "you know there've been roumors lately about a certain band called queen. and they say that we're gonna split up. they're talking from here! (then he points on his a.... with his hands which means that it's kind of bullshit).." [from real magic tour in 86 in london wembley]
is not really true. The fact was that the band queen was shortly before it's end in 86, or do I missunderstand the situation?

Posted on 19.01.2004 00:05:05
No, it was true. It is understud that Freddie new he was HIV+ at this point in time and thats why he said towards the end of his statement "We're going to stay together until we f**king well die". So what he said was the truth, just a little more true than people expected. ( I think you may have only seen the VHS version of this show ? ).

Posted on 19.01.2004 16:40:23
yes, thats rights, I have only seen the VHS Version ( pity.......).
