For ages this has been a gap in my collection, but I'd like to now bridge that gap! So I've been looking into buying this DVD. I've found it available here on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Queen-Live-Japan-1985/dp/B000GCGDOY/ref=sr_1_1/026-2775011-8334042?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1186576229&sr=1-1 It says in the description here that its Region 2 and PAL, which would play perfectly for me here in the UK. However, a chap says in his comment that it is actually NTSC, which is what you would expect from Japan. Amazon have got the current We Will Rock You Montreal DVD listed as a Region 1 NTSC DVD, yet everyone claimed it was actually region free. I bought this DVD and it played perfectly on my players. So can Amazon be trusted in their descriptions? Does anyone know the true encoding of this DVD and has anyone in the UK bought it? I haven't a clue if the three DVD players in my house (computer, part of the TV setup and PS2) support multi-region DVDs or how to check.

It's in fact NTSC and region free. You should be able to play it. Please note that the DVD only has a Dolby Digital 2.0 audio (no stereo track) and it has a MP (Masterplan) logo throughout the concert in the upper left corner of the screen. It has no extras at all and is NOT an official release (although they claim it is licensed by Queen Music Ltd). 16 British pounds is much too expensive for this. WWRY is also NTSC and region free.

Thanks YV. Yeah I guessed it wasn't official, but thanks for the heads up about the logo and the sound. So where would you advice buying it from then? (its worth buying at all!) I've also seen this cover - http://en.queenvision.com/images/dvds/q_flij_j_1.jpg - but never been able to find it anywhere. Does this release suffer the same pitfalls? So should I also be able to play the Q+PR Super Live DVD then? Whether its NTSC or PAL has no bearing on whether it will play, its the region?

Most European TV sets and DVD players do play NTSC, just take a look at your manuals. I do not own the version you posted, it's from Japan (not official, either) and according to hmv it's region 2, stereo and NTSC http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/1865876 Amazon offers some used and new copies of the masterplan release for 4,90 pounds, that would be a good price - or search ebay. There is a Brazilian release with stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1, NTSC and all-region, it's often on ebay, too. QPR Super Live in Japan is all-region and NTSC. It's an official release with dts and decent picture.

OK, thanks again YV!
