old Queen Tour Shirts reproductions

Posted on 21.12.2003 08:06:56
Hey everyone - this is my first day here and my first post. I wanted to ask your opinion on something. I've got a slew of t-shirt reproductions of vintage Queen tour shirts. I'm obviously not liscensed by Queen Productions Ltd. but should I go public anyway with these shirts? They're not meant to be fake by any means....just an afforable way to wear some classic designs. I've made shirt reproductions of the following tours: A Night at the Opera, Jazz, Hot Space, The Works & The Magic Tour - and I must say that they look pretty damn good.
So again ~ my quesiton is should I go ahead and let the public in to the website or should I try to contact Queen Productions Ltd (and how does one do that?). Yes I'm using the Queen name and logos but it's on products that are no longer printed, no longer sold by Queen Productions Ltd so it would not at all be in any sort of direct competition with it....not stealing and food off anyone's plate. What do i do? - Daniel

I may be wrong but I think you should be careful. It's very unlikely that Queen Prod. let you sell reproductions of official T-Shirts. They denied the fan club owner Jacky Smith permission to have official shirts reproduced in order not to hamper future merchandise.

Just recently he Dutch rock band 'Di-rect' was contacted by the Queen management for re-creating the famous 4-heads image (as used on the Miracle cover) and using it as a
photobook cover. The Dutch band was told to remove all copies of their photobook from shops immediately. You can see from this incident that QP are very keen on protecting their "trade marks" . The Dutch band only used the idea but that was enough for QP to interfere.

Verrrry interesting indeed. I'm even more curious too since I have seen alot of reproductions (really bad ones) on ebay - and another thing I've seen is on a few ebay auctions where a company is selling Queen shirts or Freddie Mercury shirts (again, not very good ones either) it says they're "officially liscenced" to sell this stuff. Now it seems odd to have them be allowed but Jacky Smith denied permission. Do you figure the ebay sellers are just lying? - daniell

ps - i do have website up but not advertised...should I post the link here too? ack! help.

I have seen the Di-rect book in the shops here in the Netherlands. Were all books removed in the end or did they come to an agreement with Queen Productions? Just out of curiousity....
