Queen in Brisbane, Australia on 23.04.1976 (written by Wayne Lang)

I saw Queen in concert at Festival Hall, Brisbane on their "Night At The Opera" tour, on believe it or not, Queen Street (No pun intended, and yes, that really is the main street of Brisbane). My girlfriend, at the time offered to buy me a ticket if I would take her for her birthday. We were both 15 at the time.

I wasn't very keen on going as I was a heavily into KISS & a huge heavy metal fan and to put it bluntly, I thought Queen were a bunch of poofs. I'm really glad I went though. The band completely blew me away with their stage presence and the quality of their musicianship. Needless to say, I became an instant fan, and to this day, I still consider it one of the best concerts I've been to, and I've been to quite a few over the years.

The support acts were "Ray Burgess" (an aussie pop icon) and "Taste" (an aussie Glam band). Attendance figures are hard to guage, but it was nearly capacity, so at a guess I'd say it would have been around 1500-2000. Unfortunately, the venue doesn't exist any longer. Which is a true shame as I'd seen a fair few bands play there over the years. In fact the 1st concert I went to with my wife, now of 33 years was Foreigner @ Festival Hall in 1978. Some other bands I saw there were: Blackmore's Rainbow, Status Quo, Suzi Quatro, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, The Sweet and of course, Queen.

I was very saddened to hear the news when Freddie died. As you all know, the world lost truly one of the best singers in rock history. I'm so honoured to have been able to see him perform live. What a great F@#%ing band they were.
