Queen in Kansas City, Missouri, USA on 12.09.1980 (written by Bill Brown)

This was actually my second Queen show, I saw them 2 years earlier on the Jazz tour. But our seats for that show were way up in the nosebleed section and I was only 12 years old and my Mom was with me who by the way fell asleep during the show. She would constantly yell at me to turn my stereo down and she sleeps through a loud rock concert! Anyway in 1980, I got much better tickets and went with 3 other 14 year olds. The evening got underway with Dakota who were ok but I was so pumped up to see my hero's that I couldn't get into them at all. Then Queen came on and were totally on fire. I couldn't believe how great they sounded. I had been playing drums for 2 years and was obsessed with drums so needless to say I was focused on Roger and his big silver sparkled Ludwig kit. Freddie had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the first note and during Brian's solo, one of my friends who was sitting closer to the stage then I, stood up and hooted and hollered for Brian who then pointed and smiled at my friend who by the way never fails after all these years to tell that story. It was such a great night and when I got home that night there was a TV show in Kansas City at the time that featured Rock music and Queen had 3 video's on that night. It was a great way to end the night and although I would see Queen one more time in 1982, this show is the one I most fondly remember. They had the number one album in the country and I believe AOBTD. was at least top ten by then. After all these years Queen is still to this day my all time favorite band at this is my favorite concert.
